The cover has a satin finish with spot glossy highlights. The book is clearly laid out, the photography is good and the text is engaging. I came for the French Toast and stayed for Monster Bums and RatatouilleA great selection of recipes, hints and tips

When you're short of cash you really do need to know that a recipe will both work out AND be tasty, and this is what Jack delivers time and time again. I like the flat illustration style where it pops up, and the photo's are warm and homely. From a hands-on experience this book is lovely and tactile, with a clean design.

What you won’t find are trendy, exotic or expensive ingredients: this is how to take commonplace food and lift it, simply and affordably. THIS is another great book, like having a friend in the kitchen helping to make yummy food by sharing tips to make funds/favour go further. The layout is pretty clean and crisp and feels modern.

This is a good book that attempts to go beyond being a mere collection of recipes, showing a different way to approach the business of making food. It's quite a weighty volume, and it has a really good spine that lets you keep the page open almost flat on the counter which makes keeping it as a reference easy. There’s a real range, with plenty of vegetarian options.
