Plus anyone who mentions Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing is winning! For me, I found Night Owls to be so relatable, and despite what we see on the surface it isn’t just a love story, it is a story about acceptance; accepting who you are, accepting the good and the bad relationships, accepting failures and accepting new adventures. It touched me that it showed me and everyone else who has rad this book that we come across diversity in everyday life and more and more people need to reflect this within literature. Overall this was a great read, fantastic even and I recommend it to my contemporary loving friends.
What also had me loving this book was the it touched base with many areas, like LGBT community, religion, feminism and even shared mental health. Night Owls did have a great romance, our main characters Bex and Jack meet on a summer night on the night bus and as we quite clearly notice, they hit it off right away.
What I enjoyed about their romance was that it didn’t feel forced and we definitely did not have a love-at-first-sight situation. There was infatuation, lust, and love — and I felt privileged that I got to see them at all these stages. I’d have to say, my first read of the year has been a rather successful one, so much so it is now in my Top 10 of favorite YA contemporaries — there I said it! It was enticing.
