I also read « The Big Picture » , in which the hero is in a constant disappearing act. These compelling destinies seem to be the fruit of the author’s rather desolate and cruel childhood, in a family that probably only makes for good writing, lives later. I’m hestitating for my 3rd of your novels, trying to determine by the commentaires which would enthrall me most ? How could I have ignored Douglas Kennedy’s incredible writing all this time ?

! Yes, I saw his interviews on French TV with François Busnel, but it wasn’t until I read his blogs here, that I thought, « hmmm, this may be an real author, and not just another « American in Paris » ? And the a few divorces and separations which take aways the « Canada Dry », feeling to leave you with the bittersweet, last dregs of your drink in your glass of left with only the last ice cubes.

How could I have ignored the tremendous Douglas Kennedy all this time ? To your new future reader, don’t make my mistake and pass up Douglas Kennedy for years ; I preferred reading his novels in English, his mother tongue, but having looked over the French translations they seem to have captured his style too. Of course, his great force is the romancing as well as the explanations of how we really can’t control exterieur circumstances, though simply obliterate them a time, mostly with lots of alcohol and cigarettes, but we can try adjusting our attittudes towards the inevitable, with constant writing (and then not always), but writing helps, indeed, for us and his characters and fo course for the author .
