) Exorbitant prices for purpose-made containers on an auction site made me search for a sensible alternative, and this is it. Then I saw these egg boilers.
It's okay if you have a lot of eggs to marinate, because you can fill up most of the space in an ordinary container and keep them immersed without using a lot of liquid that you then have to throw away. A Japanese poundshop chain now sells a plastic gadget for two eggs, about 60p to buy in Japan but nearly £40 with p&p to the UK on the auction site.
The mix is soy sauce, mirin, sake, and tsuyu, so it can get expensive. Nearly complete immersion with the minimum of marinade. So some research was called for. Sorted.
Egg storage holders for camping and picnics seemed like candidates for the job but they weren't deep enough. I haven't tried boiling eggs in these cups yet, but I've finally found the ideal container for making individual nitamago. But marinating one or two eggs at a time is a challenge.
