I guessed a few things, but not until they were near ready to be revealed. Holy shizzle… where the heck do I begin? There’s rats, music, dancing, bad but funny jokes, a dead wife who Miller has not let go of – If I’d heard any of this before deciding to read this book, I’m not sure it would work or appeal to me, being a big fan of the Thorne series… but trust me, it all works and I’m glad (in a sense) on how it ended as it means there will be more. I laughed all through out this novel as there were some great lines that balanced the darkness of the case and the backstory.

Saying that, we’re given the impression that his banter and ‘bad jokes’ have always been there, so readers… just like his colleagues, will either love or hate him. I enjoyed how the author drip fed bits of information about these characters. Devoured this book all too fast -I absolutely enjoyed the quirky Miller & his sidekick Xiu - I’ve loved his previous books in the Tom Thorne series- but this book introduces Detective-Declan Miller -& Xiu both great characters - Can’t wait for the next in the series- but sadly I believe not until next year !
The threads in this novel were woven together perfectly, but I wasn’t surprised as I love the Tom Thorne series. All day, every day!
