As I say: aside from finding the topic intrinsically fascinating, Max’s book is so well written, researched & presented that I haven’t really put it down since I received it. A lot of the issues relevant in 1962 are still so in 2022. ) is never dry. Do we ever learn?

If you enjoy this period of history (Cold War etc) then trust me when I say that you WILL enjoy this tremendous book. I hope for better physical quality for the next release! ! As soon as I saw it advertised I ordered it & when it was published & delivered last week & got straight into it. ”Buy ‘n’ Enjoy I have read ‘All Hell Let Loose’ & ‘Vietnam’ (both by Max Hastings) in addition to some of his other books.

This makes the actual handling of the book quite poor and not an easy reading experience. Well.

As Churchill said: “Those who forget the past are condemned to relive it. However i was slightly disappointed by the physical quality of this book. It is a very engaging, informative (I could say even entertaining) book, covering the lead-up to, the event itself & the aftermath of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. Both the previous books I mentioned above do-not contain any superfluous content & this one is the same.

Honestly, I cannot think of a reason why you wouldn’t find this a truly enjoyable book. There are plenty of books already published & available on this subject but this (in my humble opinion) is by far the best - & I’m only half the way through! For me that’s where this chap’s talent lies: being able to take a topic of huge scope & present it in a sequential but informative manner, without leading the reader astray. ?
