Aquila Chrysaetos
I really enjoyed the humorous depictions of human foibles. It is such a fitting format for this title.
This book feels a bit like a visit with the Provincial Lady where I've stayed long enough to get a feel for the tenor of the house. Macmillan's Collector's Library editions are such pretty little books. Was that a style then?
I'm sure many reader will have met at least one or two of the personality types so expertly depicted herein. Lady Boxe has no eyebrows! Her attempts to please everyone are accompanied by her inner thoughts which are often entertainingly in opposition. There is charming line art which definitely looks like it is original to the first edition.
The setting of the Diary is late 1920s English countryside. This one is especially so with the colorful artwork on the jacket.
