One of the best night time recording and smooth operation while cold/hot ambient temperature. Automatic volume control on the surprisingly good audio recording.

Then like any other dash cam, run the wire along the headliner and down the A-pillar and into the centre console to either hardwire or plug into the accessory socket with the supplied USB adapter. Recording in buffered Parking Mode is triggered by either G-sensor or visible Motion; but as there’s no option to disable Parking Motion Detection, Parking Mode is unusable in busy areas (car park, road-side) for more than a few hours - the card will soon fill with locked recordings of innocent vehicular and pedestrian traffic! But this produces ghosting of close-to, fast-moving, vehicles that are in slightly different positions in each image – my cropped still of the little white van (1080p@60) shows this clearly with the traffic in both directions only doing ~40mph.

A USB power bank (2A output rating) saves having the car engine idling when tinkering with settings – not kind to either the engine or neighbours! Settings options are in a single level menu (no hunting in a multi-level menu system) and in the order in which they are most likely to be accessed – so Resolution is first and Firmware Version last. I know lots of people who own this A119 v3 updated camera and love it. Picture quality (both video and stills) is outstanding if you choose the right settings.

Installing in the car is quite easy, I used the adhesive mount and fixed it close to the mirror so as it is as close to the centre of the screen as possible, as I have used the fixed mount you can't move it left or right to get an inline image (if that bothers you). Experimenting with capturing fast-moving registration numbers made me aware of how important it is to keep clean the bottom right-hand sector of the windscreen that’s not swept by the wipers. The adhesive mounts stick to the screen well without fear of it falling off.

It lacks both a trouble-shooting section and a guide to the beep codes. Even SanDisk cards with a white front are difficult to find (in a mostly black interior) when only the black edge of the card is visible! Installation is easy, simply clean the windscreen in the location you wish to install and remove the adhesive pad from the GPS base, then press this onto the windscreen.

Image Sensor. During the day, you can read oncoming number plates however this isn't really possible at night as reflections from the headlights obscures them. The novel wedge-shaped body with a movable lens is a clever alternative to the usual ‘big matchbox’ and cylindrical shapes - a flat back for an adequate size of display and a fixed the mount on the front parallel to, and ~ 1cm from, the inside of the windscreen leaving just enough room for the lens to be rotated and for its cooling vents to work.
