I’m sure there will be a moment when every reader who’s reached the last page will immediately go back to the start and reread certain parts with the growing horror at what has been staring them in the face all along. It is not an easy book to read and in honesty I spent most of the book struggling to understand what was going on but filled with the ominous feeling that something was “off”.

I highly recommend it and it is likely to be my top book of 2023. I am a massive fan of Cat Wards work but I honestly feel that Looking Glass Sound is her masterpiece. I couldn’t work out what was fiction and what was real……wow what a totally unpredictable read (I expect nothing less from this author)

It is the story of Wilder and his obsession with writing a book to avenge what he sees as his stolen experiences. 25 starsAn eerie multi layered book about storytelling. Looking Glass Sound by Catriona WardI give this book 4. It made me think about the equally restorative and destructive power writers have over their characters.

You need to concentrate on the ever changing timelines and perspectives but it makes for a truly vivid but slightly disturbing reading experience. You must finish it to truly appreciate it. It is ultimately a book about the horror that comes from the act of creation. But the pay off is in finishing the story and seeing it as a whole.

I read it months ago and I’m not lying when I say I’ve thought about it every day since I finished it. Thanks to the publisher and author for my digital ARC to give an honest review. This author has such a unique and clever writing style.
