We were captivated by the underground palace and the room with the black door as well as the magical and slightly creepy Mr Spadefoot. In the forest Leina meets the magical and mysterious Mr Spadefoot who introduces himself as Lord of the Toadstools. Leina ferries people from the town into the forest everyday.

The recommended reading age for this book is 3+ but with it's longer text and darker themes I would recommend this for older children (5+) My daughter loved it and she is 8! The illustrations are exceptional and really bring the dark, creepy forest and mysterious undergroud palace to life. Amazing details and textures, deep colors.

Personally I adore the art work. Can not recommend this enough The story was wonderful like an old fashion fairy/folk tale, the overall theme is about respecting your environment. The reading age listed is 3-5 I would say its for 6+ its quite a long book to read to younger children.

I really enjoy every book illustrated by Julia Sarda. She accepts dinner in his underground palace. One day Leina's friend Oren doesn't return.

To me, it is not a book for children but for adults and creative natures. This is a magical, atmospheric and dark story from the award winning creators of The Wolf's Secret.

We loved the underlying messages of the story about gratitide and forgiveness and protecting wildlife and nature. This story is so creative and reminded me of both Alice in Wonderland and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

But not everyone that goes into the forest comes back out again. This is an original, enchanting fairytale and we couldn't stop turning the pages! I feel the style is rather marmite, you are either going to love it or you won't.
