Traditional Fetta cheese made with fresh whole cream dairy milk straight from our farms. The absorbing story of the Cretan village of Plaka and the tiny, deserted island of Spinalonga - Greece's former leper colony - is told to us by Maria Petrakis, one of the children in the original version of 'The Island'. Gill Smith's rich, full-colour illustrations will transport the reader to the timeless and beautiful Greek landscape and Mediterranean seascape. A dramatic and moving story set in the same world as the international bestseller The Island from the celebrated novelist Victoria Hislop. If the flame seems too low, pour out a small layer of wax and relight. Preserved in brine which results in a mild but salty flavour and a firm texture. We also acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and that it always was and always will be Aboriginal land. We are currently in Elounda. My daughter is engrossed in the book and we have talked about a mothers love for a child and how Maria’s mother would do anything to protect her children. This is such a lovely and interesting story. As the story continues Maria slowly grows up and we find out more and more about the tale of what happened on that island where everyone was sent if they were found to have the disease.

The things that happen within the story were so interesting and this book did make me a little emotional with what was happening and with the good things that happened towards the ending too. One day Rita sees some old photographs and after finding out about them she asks her grandmother whether they could visit the town where her grandmother grew up.
It’s also just a really great story and one which I will want to read again! But throughout those sadder moments are moments of hope and I love how strong and hopeful Maria’s character is despite all that is happening. The ending is good and I like what happens with the build up. -Thanks to Walker Books for a free copy for review.
